Myatts Field Park Mulberry, Camberwell, London

Myatts Field Park, London, United Kingdom. [Map]

This tree situated in a pubic park created in 1889 is really quite big despite reportedly recently being much bigger and indeed several major branches have been lost. Tree looks in good health with good crop of fruit July 2009. The park land was donated to the public by William Minet in 1889, the park gets its name from its previous use as a strawberry and rhubarb market garden run by a Joseph Myatt (the Myatts were amongst most notable popularisers of eating rhubarb as food rather than medicine). Given this origin for the park it seems quite possible that this mulberry tree pre dates the park, was a commercial fruit tree before.
